A Pair of 'Showy' Lady's Slippers - #0703

a pair of showy ladys

A member of the orchid family and the symbol of the Ridges Sanctuary in Door County. Cypripedium Reginae, reginae means “queen” in Latin. “Queen”, because many consider the pinkish ‘Showy’ Lady’s Slipper the most beautiful of all wildflowers. It is the largest Lady’s Slipper orchid. Initially the plant produces one flower, left undisturbed, it will produce more flowers in subsequent years. A clump with 20 flowers could be 100 years old, or older. Browsing deer and habitat loss are contributing factors to its decline. Habitat: mossy bogs and swamps.

Original watercolor by PaPa Giz – 6" x 12" - #0703 - SOLD - Prints still available.
