Dells Mill - Augusta, Wisconsin - #1103

The Dells Mill located about 5 miles out of Augusta, Wisconsin on Cty.Rd. V, just off St.Hwy. 27 is a water powered flour and feed mill built in 1846 during the Civil War.  By the 1880s more than a thousand mills were operating in Wisconsin, milling became Wisconsin's second largest industry, now there are just a few old mills standing.

For the farmer, in those times, the mill was more than a place of business.  A trip to the mill may well have been an all-day affair and for some it maybe even involved a stay overnight in the boarding house.  Often the farmers fished the mill pond.  The mill is on the National Register of Historic Places.

Using 'artist privilege', the stone bridge of Shiocton replaces the ordinary county road bridge that crosses the river below the dam.  The bridge in its self is a master piece worth checking out on St.Hwy. 187, just north of Shiocton, Wisconsin.

Original watercolor by PaPa Giz - 11"x15" - #1103 - Phone or e-mail for pricing.
