A New Year, at Toft Point - #0508

Thomas Toft came to the Point in 1870 to take on a physically demanding limestone quarrying job. The completion of the Sturgeon Bay Ship Canal in 1882 provided safer docking and easier loading, bringing the Toft's quarry operation to an end. Thomas and his family of 7 children continued their lives on the Point. The Toft's garden apple trees and lilacs continue, to this day, to signal a start to a 'new year' with their blossoms.
